Daimler Truck introduces TruckCharge for EU charging, e-infrastructure

Offering consulting, sales, service, financing and more, TruckCharge will officially launch in Europe, this September.

Daimler Truck introduced the TruckCharge brand in Europe, which it said combines the company’s existing and future offerings related to EV infrastructure and the charging of electric trucks, including consulting, hardware and digital services. This service targets both truck fleet operators and industrial companies with their own or outsourced truck fleets and is available regardless of the truck brand, the company said. TruckCharge will officially launch at the IAA Transportation in Hanover in September.

“We want to make e-mobility simple and profitable for our customers – also beyond the purchase of electric trucks. With TruckCharge, we are now bundling our range of solutions under one brand and plan to continuously expand the portfolio,” said Karin Rådström, chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Improving total costs of fleet operators

Daimler Trucks said the consulting service for fleet operators is part of its comprehensive ecosystem aimed at improving total costs related to electric trucks. The company adds its experts have been assisting vehicle customers in electrifying their fleets and depots, focusing on consulting on electric trucks, planning, building and designing depot charging infrastructure, and grid connection. Daimler Truck consultants also help identify public funding opportunities for infrastructure and vehicles.

Charging stations for customer depots and digital services

Daimler Truck offers customers the option to purchase fast-charging stations from its dealerships. The “Depot Charging” package includes consulting, hardware sales, technical service and financing solutions from Daimler Truck Financial Services. Qualified Daimler Truck partners will handle installation upon request. The company said the first pilot projects began at various dealerships in Germany in May, with further rollout in other European countries planned. Alpitronic is the strategic partner for the charging stations.

Digital services include the operation of the vehicle fleet, intelligent charging management, and suitable payment functions for public charging.

Consulting for electrification of industrial company logistics

Daimler Truck tells us it developed specialized consulting services for industrial companies aiming to establish carbon-neutral supply chains. The company said this process involves evaluating routes to be electrified with customers and creating plans for optimal routes and corresponding charging points. The first customer was Mercedes-Benz Group AG in cooperation with Große-Vehne as the logistics partner.

FTR reports a significant dropoff in U.S. trailer orders in May, falling 56% from the April level to 5,766 units, which is down 14% year-over-year and 65% below the average for the last 12 months. The number of trailers ordered over the last 12 months now totals 198,200 units.

FTR says the May decrease was primarily driven by a substantial drop in gross orders coupled with the sustained high level of cancellations. Trailer production decreased by 5% month-over-month and 22% y/y in May, totaling a still relatively high level of output at 21,781 units. This build level is 10% lower than the average May level over the past five years.
